Job Description
This post is located in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Regional Office for West and Central Africa in Dakar, Senegal (ROSEN). This vacancy announcement is for 1 internship position for a period of six months. The envisaged start date is in February 2023.
Please be advised that the internship is full-time and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (40 hours).
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Deputy Regional Representative, and in close collaboration with the Associate Coordination Officer, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties:
Support the compilation and preparation of briefing and presentation materials, background information and documentation as well as drafting of talking points and speeches for meetings, events and missions.
Assist in creating and updating coordination documents such as country fiches;
Draft routine correspondence, memoranda, letters, invitations and other documents;
Participate in the quality control of external and internal documents such as reports to donors, inputs for HQ;
Liaise with relevant stakeholders to collect, analyze and disseminate data related to programme outcomes and outputs;
Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of the UNODC programmes and projects;
Provide inputs to annual reports, including on the Sustainable Development Goals, Gender and Human Rights;
As part of a team, promote knowledge management to ensure access to best available expertise and facilitate organizational learning. Participate in the development of the new strategic framework for West Africa;
Provide support to the activities of UNODC, particularly by assisting the organization of events, workshops, meetings and retreats;
Participate in UN country teams thematic groups and other relevant meetings and draft minutes accordingly;
Support any other tasks as required.
Educational Requirements
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); Applicants should have graduated from or be enrolled in a graduate degree programme in law, international affairs, security studies, or political or social science;
Be computer literate in standard software applications;
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Experience Requirements
No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
